In 1987, I started building our meal shed in a paddock on dad’s farm. We made pig meal in it for our growing number of outdoor pigs. Sheds were built for the pigs in 1989, 1991 and 1994. After a downturn in the pig industry, we decided to diversify.
It was suggested that we make calf meal and in 1998 we established Aoraki Stockfoods. Due to the success of our calf meal sales we soon had to extend the meal shed and then another extension a few years later. We were always refining our systems to increase efficiency and capacity.
After more record sales in 2017 it was obvious that it was time to build a new feedmill.
In 2018 our youngest son Daniel returned home. Daniel, Shona and I visited various feedmills around the country looking for ideas. Daniel continues to work for us and has been fully involved in the design and build of the new feedmill.
Our end design has many similarities to our old feedmill though upsized and modernised. Our old feedmill peaked at 80 tonnes per day the new feedmill has the potential to make double this amount.
